Hip-hop arrived in France 30 years ago and yet is too often still thought of as a subculture. La Place has been designed as a response to the needs for justice and recognition of the artists of this movement. It is one of the first cultural centres of its kind in the world and brings together, under a single roof, all the different disciplines of hip-hop.  La Place seeks to provide a home for and promote hip-hop’s mindset, aesthetics and formats:
- Hip-hop mindset: to bring together people from different walks of life in a friendly, informal ambience
- Hip-hop aesthetic: to provide a home for a variety of authentic street, culture clubbing, etc., aesthetics.
- Hip-hop formats: battles, events, outdoor performances, jams and improvisations, etc.

La Place has a surface area 1500 m² and can accommodate up to 650 persons. It offers:
- 1 concert hall for 400 (standing)
- 1 broadcasting studio seating 100
- 8 rehearsal areas including a recording studio, a home recording studio, a video studio and 1 graffiti/street art artist’s studio – 10 à 110 m2
- 1 incubator with up to 20 workstations for hip-hop entrepreneurs – 210 m2
